Briefing
Sichuan, the
two Chinese characters, literally mean" Four Rivers",
which implies there are many rivers and mountains in Sichuan.
Topographically, Sichuan is a basin, surrounded with long ranges of
mountains, featuring a multifariousness in landscape. There are a
lot of rivers and canals; valleys and lakes gorges and ravines;
plateau and grassland, glacier and virgin forests, some intertwined,
some aloof, which makes Sichuan a natural art gallery.

Jiuzhaigou-Huanglong
Scenic Zone
Jiuzhaigou
is situated at the foot of the section of the Minshan mountain range
in Jiuzhai County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of
Sichuan Province. With elevation of 2,000-4,000 meters, it is one of
the branch gullies at the source of the Jialing river of the
Changjiang river system.
Jiuzhaigou
(Nine Village Gully) derives its name from the nine villages in the
gully. Its main attractions are alpine lakes and waterfalls, as a
scenic area. Jiuzhaigou is well-known for its lakes, waterfalls,
beaches, rivers, snowy mountain peaks, forests and local Tibetan
customs. It is honored as "fairy-land on earth" and
"fairy tale world" for its unique primeval beauty,
different scenes in different seasons, rich animal and plant
resources. It was approved to be one of the world natural heritages
by the UNESCO in the year 1992.
With an area
of 720 square kilometers, it consists of 3 gullies. Altogether has
118 alpine lakes, 17 waterfalls and several beaches.
Jiuzhaigou has
temperate monsoon climate. It is cool in summer and there is no
bitter wind in winter. With fresh air and bright sunshine,
Jiuzhaigou is an ideal place for tourists, sightseers and
holiday-makers.
Huanglong
(Yellow Dragon) located in the virgin forests of the northwest
tableland of Sichuan province, This scenic spot is known as
"the heavenly scenery on earth",. The clear snow-broth
flowing down from the high, far snowy mountain forms clear, shallow
and sparkling pools with a tier upon tier. The pools surrounded by
dark green forests set off snow-white ice peaks and reflect a riot
of colour all over the place. It is such surpassing beautiful
landscapes that visitors seemed to have entered a dream-state and a
fairyland. Huanglong Scenic Spot and Jiuzhaigou Scenic Spot are
extremely fascinating bright pearls on the northwest highland.
Hailuogou
Glacier Park
Hailuogou is
located on the east slope of Gonga Mountain," King of Mountains
in Sichuan", which is 7556 meters high above sea level and has
more than seventy glaciers, stands proudly high in the sky.
Hailuogou is the largest and most magnificent one of the glaciers.
Scientific
discoveries show that Hailuogou Glacier has a history of 1600 years.
The total length of the glacier is 15 kilometers. It is made up of
Snow Basin, Glacier Tongue and Ice Waterfall. The Glacier Tongue
extends into the primeval forest for six kilometers and forms a
series of wonderful scenic spots. The front of the glacier Tongue is
only 2850 meters high above level. It is the lowest modern glacier
in the world with an ideal climate, which is available to tourists
of ordinary physical strength.
The Three
Gorges on the Yangtze River
Originating in
the Qinghai Highland, the 6,300-kilometer long Changjiang (Yangtze)
River, the longest in China and one of the longest in the world,
sweeps from west to east through eight provinces and one
municipality. When it reaches the eastern Sichuan Basin in southwest
China it cuts through the Wushan Mountains bordering Sichuan and
Hubei provinces. Here the river course suddenly narrows and the
waters become turbulent. Sheer cliffs and steep mountains rise on
either side, creating one of nature's most fantastic sights, the
Three Changjiang River Gorges-the Qutang, the Wuxia and the Xiling,
which extend from Fengjie in the west to Yichang in the east, a
total of 193 kilometers.
Leshan-Mt.Emei
Scenic Zone
This scenic
zone is 162 kilometers away from Chengdu. Located in the southwest
of the Sichuan Basin. It has rich products, prosperous economy,
plentiful historic sites and fascinating sights, like beautiful Mt.
Emei (the holly mountain of Buddhism) under heaven and world-famous
Grand Buddha (the stone sitting-statue of Matreya, which was
engraved on a hill and located in the convergency place of three
rivers) .
Mt. Emei is
one of the four Buddhist sanctuaries in China. It is known for its
steepness and grace. Its most marvelous to watch the three scenic
spectacles at the Golden Summit -the sunrise, the sea of clouds and
the "Buddha's Halo" (a colorful circle of light appears
over the sea clouds. Visitors can see the shadow of oneself in the
circle). And its not only a place for the sightseeing but also a

Siguliangshan
(Four Maiden Mountain)
The Four
Maiden Mountain, with a total area of 450 sq. km, is situated in
Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, 220 km from
Chengdu. The main peak with majestic view is 6250 meters above sea
level. The scenic area is made up of three scenic spots.
The scenery of
the Four Maiden Mountain are fascinating, primitive and peaceful.
Mountain peaks here are precipitous; forests are verdant and dense;
grassy marsh lands are like green cushions; streams wing through the
valleys; together with glittering glaciers, flying waterfalls, lake
wrapping in clouds, rare fowls and strange animals, adding radiance
and beauty to each other and creating three brilliant painted
corridors.
The people of
Tibetan, Qiang, Hui and Han nationalities live here in harmony. The
Jiarong Cultural Relics, moving legends, grand sacrifices and
celebrations, melodious folk songs, vigorous and lively Guozhuang
dances, stone houses, warmhearted people, appetizing highland barley
wine and buttered tea together form a painting of strong local
conditions and customs.
