Three Gorges Project

Located in Sandouping Of the Xiling Gorge, the proposed site of the Three gorges Dam is 38 km upstream from the Gezhouba Project. It is an exceptionally large water conservancy scheme possessing enormous, comprehensive utilization benefits for flood control, power generation, navigation, breeding of aquatic products and water supply.

The project is to consist of a large dam across a river, hydro electric power station and navigation structures. It is to adopt a programme of "one-cascade development of the stretch from Chongqing to Sandoupsng, finishing the project construction once to the final scope, storing water step by step, and resettling the people persistently." Theelevation of the dam crest is 185 meters above sea level. Its normal water storage level is 175 meters and total storage capacity is 39.3 billion cubic meters, with flood-control storage capacity of 22.15 billion cubic meters. The power station would install 26 sets of power generating units, with a total installed ca pacity of 17680 MW and an annual output of 84 billion kwh, The navigation structure's annual one-way passage capacity would be 50 million tons. About 650 km of channels would be upgraded.

Construction of the project will be divided into three stages. The general construction period for the principal part of the project will last 15 years. In the ninth year after construction begin, permanent navigation structures will be put into use and the first power gernerating unit begin gernerating electricity Calculated intermsof1990 price, the total investment, including that project construction, resettlement of residents and power transmission, could reach 57 billion yuan.

Day01Arrival in Shanghai                                                                   2N in 3 star hotel     (L)

Arrival in Shanghai, pick up and transfer to hotel and then visit the Shanghai Bund, one of the most famous thoroughfares in China and here you will see a collection of buildings dating from the 1930's displaying their western influence and fulfilling the role of the commercial heart of Shanghai.

Day02 Shanghai                                                                                       (B/L)

After breakfast you will visit Shanghai Museum on People's Square with its fine collection of cultural relics. Then you go to the Yuyuan Garden. After that walk in the famous Nanjing Street.

Day03 Flight Shanghai - Yichang                                   4 N on Cruiser Boat (B)

In the morning free time in Shanghai, in the afternoon transfer to airport and fly to Yichang, pick up and transfer to harbour, overnight on boat.

In the morning arrival in Chongqing, pick up and then transfer to bus station, and then 4-hour driving to Chengdu by bus, pick up and transfer to hotel and then free time.

In the early morning transfer to airport and fly to Tibet, upon arrival at Gonggar Airport, pick up and transfer to Lhasa(3650 m) with about 1 1/2 hours’ driving (100km), in the afternoon rest and acclimatize.

In the morning visit Potala Palace, which was originally constructed in 637 by Songtsen Gampo, the first king of the united Tibet, and later expanded and served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas as well as the religious-political nexus of traditional Tibet. In the afternoon visit Jokhang temple, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist followers where innumerable pilgrims come for worship everyday. The temple, built in 647, is the earliest wood-and-masonry structure still existing in Tibet. Surrounding the Jokhang Temple is the bustling Barkhor Market place which is the religious and social focus of Lhasa.

Day10 Lhasa                                                                                                                                      (B/L)

In the morning visit Drepung monastery the sacred land of Gelukpa sect., which was created in 1416 and the second, third and fourth Dalai Lama once resided in. In the afternoon visit Sera monastery, which was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary. As rose are planted everywhere in the monastery, it is also called “the court of wild rose”. Today still 200 lamas live in there.

Day11 Lhasa- Yamdrok Tso Lake- Gyantse - Shigatse     1N in 3 star hotel          (B/L/D)

Today is a full day picturesque drive crossing over a colorful Yamdrok Lake.  Kambala Pass at 4,794 m and Karola Pass at 5,010m. In Gyantse visit the Kumbum Stupa and Phalkor Monastery. And then drive to Shigatse, the second largest town in Tibet and the capital of Tsang.

Day12 Shigatse – Lhasa                                                                    1N in 3 star hotel          (B/L/D)

After breakfast visit Tashilunpo monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama built in 1447 and one of the six grand monasteries in Tibet. After the visit take a 6-hour drive along the Brahmaputra River to Lhasa.

Day13 Flight Lhasa-Chengdu                                                                1N in 3 star hotel    (B/L)   

In the early morning transfer to airport and fly to Chengdu,  pick up and then visit Pandas in the Panda Breeding Center and a traditional Chengdu Tea House.

Day14 Flight Chengdu - Xi'an                                                                2N in 4 star hotel    (B/L)

In the morning transfer to airport and fly to Xi'an, pick up and after lunch visit the Provincial History Museum with its richest collection of artifacts in China and the City Wall.

Day15 Xi'an                                                                                                                                   (B/L)

After breakfast drive to the famous Terracotta Warriors Museum. After lunch, you will visit  the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Tonight, the deluxe Tang Dynasty Dinner Show is reserved for you.

Day16 Flight  Xi'an - Beijing                                                                  2N in 3 star hotel       (B/L)

In the morning transfer to airport and fly to Beijing, pick up and then visit Tian'an Men square, which is probably the biggest one of its kind in the world, and the Forbidden City  the Temple of Heaven, in the evening you will visit Peking Opera.

Day17 Beijing                                                                                                                               (B/L/D)

After breakfast, excursion  to the Badaling Great Wall. After lunch drive to Ming Tombs to visit  the Underground Palace of Dingling.  Tonight you will have Peking Duck Dinner.
