Cultural Tour of Eastern Kham

Chengdu/Leshan/Emei Shan/Kangding/Daofu/Garze/Paiyul/Derge/Dzongchen monastery/Garze/Danba/Wolong/Chengdu (15 days)

Day01 Beijing – Chengdu                                                                         2N in 3 star hotel

Arrival in Beijing, then connecting flight to Chengdu, pick up and transfer to hotel and then free time.

Day02 Chengdu – Leshan – Mt. Emei Shan                                           1N in 2 star hotel      B/L

At Leshan visit the temple of the Great Buddha – site of world’s largest stone Buddha image (71 metres). After the visit drive to Mt. Emei Shan. Mount Emei Shan is one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China, which rise abruptly 2600 metres from the Sichuan plain. This peak is dedicated to the bodhisattva Samantabhadra. In the late after you will reach the summit of this mount. Overnight on the summit.

Day03 Mt. Emei Shan                                  1N in 4 star hotel      B/L/D

Sea sunrise in the early morning, after breakfast visit the peak monastery. In the afternoon visit the temple of Wannian Si with its life-size image of Samantabhadra riding an elephant. And at the base of the mountain visit Baoguo temple.

Day04 Emei Shan – Kangding                                                              1N in 2 star hotel     B/L/D

Kangding was formerly the capital of the Chakal Kingdom – one of the five independent kingdoms of Kham. The town prospered as the center for the tea-trade between Tibet and China. Traders would travel long distances,carrying herbal medicines from the Tibetan plateau to sell in exchange for the tea grown in the Ya’an region, which appealed to the Tibetan palate when blended with salt and butter.

Day05 Kangding – Tagong monastery – Daofu                                    1N in Guesthouse   B/L/D 

On the way visit Tagong monastery, then drive to Daofu. The Daofu(3125 metres) valley is one of most attractive parts of Kahm, the neatly constructed white flat-roofed houses with their horizontal red timbers exuding an air of quiet prosperity.

Day06 Daofu – Garze                                                                   2N in Kamba hotel          B/L/D

Drive to Garze (3580 metres).

Day07Garze                                                                                                                     B/L/D

Today visit Garze monastery. It was originally constructed by the Qosot Mongols circa 1642. It once had a population of 1500 monks, making it the largest in Kham alongside Chamdo.

Day08: Garze – Paiyul                                                                       1N in Paiyul hotel      B/L/D

Visit Baiyul monastery.

Day09: Paiyul – Derge        1N in Dege hotel       B/L/D

Visit Derge printing press.

Day10: Derge – Dzongchen monastery        
1N in simple Guesthouse B/L/D

Drive to Dzongchen monastery. Dzongchen is recognized as the major pilgrimage site of Buddha-attributes in East Tibet and as one of the largest monasteries of the Nyingma school n Kham.

Day11: Dzongchen monastery - Garze                                      1N in Guesthouse      B/L/D

Day12: Garze - Danba                                                           1N in Guesthouse        B/L/D

Day13: Danba – Wolong                                                       1N in 2 star Panda Inn  B/L/D

In Wolong visit the Panda Reserve.

Day14: Wolong – Chengdu                                                1N in 3 star hotel             B/L

Day15 Transfer to airport and departure from Chengdu.                                              B

There are also direct flights between Hong Kong and Chengdu and also between Bangkok and Chengdu daily.
